Mona Golabek will address the Community during the Erev Shabbat Service in advance of her five week run at St James’ Theatre, Victoria.

Her show, The Pianist of Willesden Lane, is the story of her mother, Lisa Jura, a Kindertransport teenager who was placed in a Jewish hostel in Willesden Lane, NW10, an area well known to so many of our older members. Lisa, an aspiring pianist from Vienna, kept up the spirits of her fellow refugee youngsters by playing and practising in the hostel all through the bombing raids on London in the Second World War. She eventually went to the USA, where she married, had two daughters – and taught them piano. Mona Golabek is a concert pianist, entertainer and writer.
