Christy Anastas: Journeys to build bridges

June 26, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Event Navigation

Guest speaker Christy Anastas was born and grew up in Bethlehem in the Palestinian territories. Born at the end of the first intifada, during her teenage years Christy’s family lived in a war zone because of the location of their house, in front of Rachel’s tomb.

At the age of 16 her life and the lives of her family were dramatically altered when the wall separating Jerusalem and Bethlehem was erected directly in front of their house. The story of the Anastas family and their home became famous for being the only house surrounded by the wall from three sides.

These life events have left the family stuck between a rock and a hard place. Christy’s decision on
focusing on how we, together, can build bridges instead of walls impacted her life to the point of being faced with death threats by her own people and having to leave her home town to come to the UK four years ago.
