Tonight, we will be releasing the Belsize Square Synagogue 200th-birthday tribute to Louis Lewandowski, the great composer of nineteenth-century Jewish music who is also our ‘house composer’. The programme includes some of his liturgical music, familiar from Belsize services, and also some of his concert music, including lieder (for voice and piano) and works for keyboard solo. These are rarely performed but beautiful works that reveal the wide range of Lewandowski’s musical talents.
