Members’ Open Forum on Israel

October 12, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

It has been an eventful summer to say the least, both in Israel and here too. In Israel we experienced the tension and uncomfortable uncertainty concerning the rocket attacks, tunnels, running to shelters and security rooms, and the whole conflict in Gaza. Here, there were the uncomfortable feelings relating to anti-Israel and anti-semitic incidents, with demonstrations, boycotts, media attention, supermarket attacks and the whole Tricycle saga among other things.

We want our Belsize Square Synagogue community to have the opportunity to express a wide range of feelings, thoughts and opinions wherever they may be on the political spectrum, in this, the first of a series of open discussions.

This will be a forum where all views about Israel can be expressed and we are hoping for some impassioned  debate in an informal but structured way. We hope that some of our older teenagers, students and young adults will also join in and hopefully we can all learn something from this type of discussion. The idea is to hold a series of meetings every month which can include discussions, films and whatever we want.

At our first event there is no guest speaker, it’s purely an internal affair, whoever comes is welcome and it’s “after the chagim” as they say in Israel. More details about this event will follow in the weekly newsletter.
